International collegiate elite gather at the Tung-Shan River.

On behalf of Yi-Lan ,we warmly welcome all of you to the tenth YiLan International Collegiate Invitational Regatta, a major annual sport event held in beautiful Formosa - at Tung-Shan River - in September. Once again, we enthusiastically welcome all contestants, 25 teams from 12 countries – you are the true representatives of the best and the elites of the world-class institutions from around the world. We thank you for accepting our invitations to this friendly contest and we appreciate your participation and your true friendship in Taiwan.

During the past ten years our YiLan County residents have whole-heartedly supported this great sport event ,and warmly welcomed our international friends who have participated in these contests. In addition to this strong support, our modern facilities, our meticulous adherence to fair competition rules, our artistic performances and delightful cultural displays have earned us universal acclaim, particularly from those participating countries, universities and their teams. In Taiwan, this international sport event has also received a national warm response and praises from our citizens. We are most proud of this accomplishment and honored to have received countless compliments from our international friends.

We know this regatta will bring forth the best qualities and team spirit of all the participants, as well as the elegance and beauty of this fabulous sport, characterized by graceful movements and amazing speed. We are confident that you will enjoy the warm friendship of our people, and the beautiful landscape of our county. Most important of all we hope you will be invigorated by the energetic sport, splendid warmth and magnificent charm.
Tung-Shan River is known as our “River of Hope.” It is renowned for its tourism, leisure and outdoor activities. Its unique qualities have helped to shape the dreams, ideals and the vision of the people of YiLan. We are proud that it has not only developed into a world-class aquatic sports site for athletes, but also a magnificent attraction for tourists and members of political, cultural and diplomatic circles. Tung-Shan River is our “River of Friendship” as well. Though the races are important to the contestants, we sincerely hope that the friendship and the mutual bond will be even more precious to all.

We also wish to take this opportunity to thank all organizations and individuals who have so generously helped to make this year’s event a great success. We hope the painstaking task of organizing the regatta in the pass ten years will lay the groundwork for even more successful regattas in the second decade.
